Onions: Average Wholesale Prices and Price Corridors (Average Minimum and Maximum) in Russia, Weekly

The chart below displays average wholesale prices and price corridors for onions (yellow) in Russia in RUB/kg, excluding VAT. The average minimum and maximum are calculated based on the 25% of offers with the lowest and highest prices, respectively, excluding outliers. The data reflect pricing for a purchase volume of 20 tons, whereas large-wholesale transaction prices can be significantly lower. The data exclude statistics for the Far Eastern FD.

The sample is primarily based on ex-works prices from Russian onion producers, alongside offers from trading companies. The statistics also incorporate import data; however, due to marginal import volumes, its overall impact on average prices remains negligible, except from April to July, when onion imports experience a seasonal surge. In certain years, however, the impact of imports becomes substantial. For instance, in 2026, domestic onion supplies were virtually depleted and withdrawn from sale by late May, leaving the market entirely reliant on imports until early July. During specific weeks in June, Russian onions were unavailable even in the southern regions of the country, where production is heavily concentrated. Nevertheless, as the new-crop domestic supply expanded later in July, imported onions were almost completely phased out of the market within a week or two.
