Bananas: Average Retail Prices in Russia by Federal District, Weekly

The chart below displays average retail prices for bananas in Russia by federal districts, RUB/kg.

As shown in the chart, the lowest prices are traditionally recorded in the Northwestern Federal District, driven by logistical factors. More than 98% of bananas enter Russia from Ecuador (approximately 1.4 million tons annually), with the bulk of this import volume passing through the ports of St. Petersburg (Northwestern FD).

Conversely, the highest prices for bananas — as well as for most other food products — are observed in the Far Eastern Federal District. The key factors behind this are challenging logistics, low population density, vast distances between settlements, and so forth.
