Fertilizer production in Russia is export-oriented; consequently, alongside market price factors, domestic prices in ruble terms largely depend on foreign exchange rates. For instance, the US dollar averaged 73.77 RUB in December 2021, before surging to 103.47 RUB in March 2022. This exchange rate dynamic was a major driver behind the price spike in the first half of 2022. By September, the exchange rate had dropped to 59.82 RUB per dollar, causing prices to decline accordingly.
